The case for going
plant-based at Linz
What is the problem?
Summers are getting hotter, we are not able to deny the change happening anymore
Past summer(2026) has shown clearly again that climate change is something affecting us all (even in austria eg. agriculture). Unfortunately it is not the people who contribute most to the crisis (richest 10% of the world) who get to suffer under the effects. We as students see it more pressing than ever to slow down this crisis and start acting now!
Food systems are responsible for around a third of all global greenhouse gas emissions, and animal products are the dominant driver. Meat and dairy alone generate more emissions than all the world's planes, ships, and cars combined.
What can we do?
We want institutional change!
We want to follow the example of the 31 universities in Europe and 3 in Austria (CEU, BOKU, University of Graz) that have already committed to 100% plant-based catering. At the same time, we are aligning with the University of Art and Design Linz’s goal from its 2025–30 Development Plan to reduce the university’s emissions by 90% by 2035.
Every plate is a decision Art University Linz makes and can change. Going 100% plant-based is one of the most visible, controllable ways to actually deliver on that promise.
Is that even possible?
University of Graz went fully plant-based. Edinburgh hit 70% — and University of Art and Design Linz can be next!
We have the support of the student union, we never had anyone question our ask at Outreach- everybody is concious on the connection of climate and food system- we are so close...so let´s do this TOGETHER <3

The motion passed, stating that from now on all student union events have to be 100% plant-based and only plant- based food will be refunded by them

After joining the summer camp and meeting so many likeminded people and being extremely inspired by the energy Nora took on the role to bring PBU to Art university Linz. Intense strategy meetings with a lot of excitement followed, always also under support of Luisa and David (PBU JKU) ❤️🩹
