Food systems are responsible for around a third of all global greenhouse gas emissions, and animal products are the dominant driver. Meat and dairy alone generate more emissions than all the world's planes, ships, and cars combined. Every meal at the University of Graz serves is a choice between perpetuating this crisis or being part of the solution.
Every plate is a decision Uni Graz makes and can change. The University of Graz has already committed to achieving climate neutrality by 2040. Going 100% plant-based is one of the most visible, controllable ways to actually deliver on that promise.
In addition to the 100% plant-based cafeteria, there are already two fully plant-based coffee vending machines at the University of Graz. We have also published a guideline for sustainable catering at events in collaboration with the university, showing all event organizers at the university what sustainable catering looks like.
Let’s now remind the university to consistently follow through on the insights it has already developed.
