What is the problem?
57% of food emissions come from animal products
Food systems are responsible for around a third of all global greenhouse gas emissions, and animal products are the dominant driver. Meat and dairy alone generate more emissions than all the world's planes, ships, and cars combined. Every meal TU Wien serves is a choice between perpetuating this crisis or being part of the solution.
TU Wien is already trying to implement sustainability in other fields like transportation, but catering is lacking severly behind!
What can we do?
Reminding them of their promises
TU Wien has already committed to the fuTUre fit plan, which containes strategies to make it a more sustainable place. Going 100% plant-based is one of the most visible, controllable ways to actually deliver on that promise.
There exist many departments focusing an sustainability, yet one for the catering is still missing. Joining clubs and creating movement is our most effective method to achieve change.
Is that even possible?
University of Graz went fully plant-based. Vienna is following their footsteps, with BOKU and CEU sucessfully voting for a 100% plant-based cantine — and TU Wien will be next!
