To reduce the impact on climate change and the loss of biodiversity, we, as part of Plant-Based Universities, an international student campaign, are calling for a transition to a 100% plant-based food offering on university campuses as quickly as possible.
Food systems are responsible for around a third of all global greenhouse gas emissions, and animal products are the dominant driver. Meat and dairy alone generate more emissions than all the world's planes, ships, and cars combined. Every meal Leuphana serves is a choice between perpetuating this crisis or being part of the solution.
Hundreds of meals are served every day on the campus at Leuphana University Lüneburg.
The food served on campus shapes what students eat every day and there is enormous potential to make campus food more sustainable.
We call on Studierendenwerk OstNiedersachsen to make the Lüneburg canteen 100% plant-based, and on Leuphana University Lüneburg to support and expand plant-based food across campus, including catering and university events.
Together, they can make plant-based food the standard across campus, not just an alternative.
University of Graz went fully plant-based. Edinburgh hit 70% and Leuphana can be next!
