We’re working towards a university where sustainable, plant-based food is the norm — not the exception. You can help us by signing the petition or joining our team.
What we eat matters, and so does what is served in Tübingen. Food systems are responsible for around a third of global greenhouse gas emissions, with animal products driving a large share of that impact. Meat and dairy alone generate more emissions than all planes, ships and cars combined. As a university community, we have the chance to rethink what food on our campus looks like and what kind of future it helps create.
Every one of those meals is an opportunity to make food on campus more sustainable. The Studierendenwerk Tübingen-Hohenheim serves more than 1.3 million meals across its canteens each year, with over 482,000 served at Tübingen’s Wilhelmstraße canteen alone in 2025. With thousands of meals served every day, the choices made in our canteens have a real impact and they are something we can change.
The University of Tübingen has committed to climate-neutral state administration by 2030. Transforming the food served on campus is one tangible way to turn these ambitions into action.
University of Graz went fully plant-based. Edinburgh hit 70% — and Tübingen can be next!
