57% of food emissions come from animal products

Food systems are responsible for around a third of all global greenhouse gas emissions, and animal products are the dominant driver. Meat and dairy alone generate more emissions than all the world's planes, ships, and cars combined. Every meal Rheinland Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern - Landau serves is a choice between perpetuating this crisis or being part of the solution.

Every catering ordered and snack bought is a decision that RPTU Kaiserslautern- Landau makes - and can change. Universities, as institutions that shape and generate knowledge, have the power and responsibility to transform our culture and society and lead us towards a better future.

RPTU Kaiserslautern - Landau has already made a first step towards this goal; They have implemented %50 Plant Based Food Option at University Cafeteria through taking student movements seriously .

This decision marks progress towards taking care of our shared future. In the face of the urgent climate crisis, we demand RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau to take a further step and commit to a 100% plant based procurement and be part of the solution!



Is that even possible?

University of Graz went fully plant-based. Edinburgh hit 70% and University of Vienna committed to only vegetarian/vegan catering for all their events a few months ago. — and RPTU Kaiserslautern- Landau can be next! since we already have achieved %50 thanks to Student Engagement !

To Every signature gets us closer
he PBU campaign is currently active in over 80 universities including Cambridge and University College London. We are in a climate and ecological emergency and our university’s public principles state a clear commitment to addressing this.   We are a student-led campaign which aims to get all catering facilities at our University to stop serving animal products and switch 100% of their dining options to plant-based diets. We are not asking for dietary change, but rather institutional divestment from environmentally damaging industries.    Meat, fish farming, eggs, and dairy products together take up 83% of the global agricultural land and are responsible for 57% of all greenhouse gas emissions from food production. However, they provide only 37% of our proteins and about 18% of our calories. The current food system based on animal products is highly inefficient. A shift to a plant-based food system would free up 76% of the world's utilised farmland (Poore and Nemecek, 2018). Therefore, we demand that RPTU Landau University lives up to its responsibilities and does its bit towards fighting climate change. Support us and give us your voice!
